BIG WEEKEND OF NETBALL

Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th April
Tal-y-bont, Cardiff University

Welsh Netball wanted to organise a weekend of Netball that would be open to everyone, allowing for competition and fun! The BIG weekend was the result, events included:

Fourteen teams entered from the South and West of Wales. The championship courts greeted some teams who were attending a national competition for the 1st time and others only narrowly missing out on a spot at the National Clubs. All teams that attended enjoyed the day and there were some great games to keep the spectators entertained. Unfortunately Canton United, just before the semi finals had to withdraw with their GK Lisa Ah-mun being taken to hospital with a suspected fracture, we wish her a speedy recovery.

Semi Final matches were set between Apex A versus LLantrisant and Llandaff Athletic versus Maesteg. Apex A and LLandaff emerged as the winners and took the court to challenge each other for the Gold Medals. You hope that all finals will be hotly contested and this match did not disappoint with the teams going goal for goal! Llandaff Athletic had the extra edge and they clinched the win. Congratulations to all the players and team management

The Mixed Netball Tournament took to the courts at Tal-y-bont on Sunday 29th April. As teams registered for the tournament you could feel the excitement in the atmosphere building. Husbands and wife’s, boyfriends and girlfriends, brothers and sisters and friends of friends gathered in there teams for last minute instruction on the rules. Families had come down to support the event and giggles of laughter could be heard everywhere! Especially when Leckwith B teams men stretched their legs in the clubs dresses (Beautiful!):

The tournament was a great success with outstanding netball on display all day. Putting aside the fun and games there was still a competition to win and four teams secured their places in the semi’s Llantrisant versus Llandaff Angels and Llandaff Devils versus Leckwith B. The teams didn’t disappoint their supporters the semi’s were played at pace and with great skill. The last teams standing were Leckwith B and Llantrisant. Another exciting final of end to end action kept everyone entertained and wondering who was going to clasp the title. Llantrisant cam through and added the BIG Weekend Mixed Champions to their Netball 4 Life Mixed Plate Winners title.
