WELSH NETBALL ASSOCIATION

2007 GOLF DAY

Whitchurch Golf Club, Thursday 30th August

On one of the sunniest days of the summer 11 golf teams took to the course in support of Welsh Netballs Fundraising Golf Day. On entering Whitchurch’s club house they were warmly greeted by Anna Mayes, Amanda Trounce and Sophie Baxter, three members of our World Championship Squad. The girls were great hostesses, taking photographs and offering light refreshments on arrival and later around the course on their golf buggy!

Sue Holvey, Chief Executive of Welsh Netball and event organiser, gave the teams the order of the day and sent them off to their starting tee. The teams competing were:

  • Lovell - country’s leading provider of affordable housing
  • Park Row - one of the UK’s largest and fastest growing financial advice companies
  • NG Insurance - netball’s local insurance broker
  • Welsh Water Dwr Cymru entered 2 teams
  • Celtec - Corporate Approved Building Inspectors
  • Morrison Construction - one of the country’s major Civil Engineering Contractors
  • The Birdies - a group of ladies all friends of Sports Council for Wales’ Sarah Powell
  • BAW  Engineering - well established  Swansea based precision engineering company
  • Karob - a team of friends and neighbours of Sue’s
  • WRU team - some staff & players from the WRU

On reaching the 19th hole everyone was anxious to see which team and individuals had scooped the prizes. The winning team were Sarah Powell’s Birdies, they shocked the men being the first all female team to win at our Golf Day - Congratulations Ladies.  Other winners of the day included Gary Carlise picking up ‘Closest to the Pin’ on the 13th and Jeff Lugg with the ‘Longest Drive’ at the 6th.

The day came to a close with an evening meal, raffle draw and auction.  Welsh Netball extends a big thank you to everyone that supported the event, especially Whitchurch Golf Club, who made everyone so welcome.  Thanks to KTS Owens Thomas and Gilbert (Rugby) for prize donations and everyone else who helped on the day, it was a very enjoyable way to fundraise, with just over £1,800 raised!

We look forward to welcoming this years teams, past friends and newcomers to the 2008 Golf Day.
