URDD FESTIVAL

Marlborough School from Roath in Cardiff beat off the challenge from 16 other county champions to retain their URDD National Junior Schools title on finals day in Aberystwyth.

The Cardiff and Vale champions completed a second successive unbeaten season under coaches Kay Haskell and Roger Ings to put their name on the trophy for the fifth time in eight years.

After scoring 28 times and conceding just 1 in their three group games, Marlborough faced a tough semi final against Mary Immaculate (Haverfordwest) who took an early lead before Marlborough came back to win 7- 4.

With strong winds and rain showers returning to affect the outside courts, Marlborough were level at 1-all at halftime in the final with Ysgol Tywyn, who'd won their semi final in extra time. But the Cardiff school came through in the second half to take the honours 5- 2 at the end of an enjoyable day despite the weather.

Thanks to the organisers, officials, teachers and supporters who all contributed to the event.
